This Privacy Policy explains how Talli Scoreboard LLC ("Talli," "we," "us") handles your information when you use the Talli mobile app and talliapp.com (together, the "Service"). Talli is a social scoreboard: you record games with friends, and those records are shared with the people you played with. Please read this policy with that in mind.
The short version
- We collect what you give us to run your account (like your name, username, phone number and email) and the games you record.
- Games are social. A game you record is shared with everyone who played in it, and stays in their history even if you later leave Talli.
- We use your contacts only to find friends who already use Talli. We don't upload or keep your address book.
- We don't sell your personal information. We don't show ads inside the app.
- We use Meta's tools to measure how well our ads for Talli work. On iPhone this only uses your advertising ID if you allow tracking.
- You can delete your account at any time from inside the app.
Information we collect
Information you give us
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account details | Full name, username, email address, phone number, password (stored by our authentication provider, never by us in readable form), or your Apple or Google sign-in. |
| Profile details | Profile photo, date of birth, gender, city and state, and your favorite games. |
| Game records | Games you record or are added to: the game played, date, participants and teams, scores, wins, losses and draws, notes, and optional payout amounts you choose to track. |
| Social activity | Friend requests and connections, reactions, gloats and excuses you send, disputes you flag, and tabs you mark as settled. |
| Purchases | If you buy a gloat pack, the pack, price and store transaction details we receive from Apple or Google so we can confirm your purchase. We never receive your card number. |
| Messages to us | Anything you send when you email us for support or to request a game. |
Information from your device, with your permission
- Contacts. If you allow it, Talli reads the phone numbers in your contacts on your device and checks them against the phone numbers of existing Talli users so it can suggest friends. We don't upload or store your contact list. When you send a friend request, the friend's phone number is saved with that connection. For contacts who aren't on Talli, you can choose to send them an invite yourself.
- Location. During sign-up, if you allow it, Talli uses your approximate location once to fill in your city and state. We store only the city and state, not your coordinates, and we don't track your location. If you type your city instead, what you type is sent to Google Places to suggest matches.
- Camera and photos. Used only when you choose a profile picture.
- Notifications. If you allow them, we store a device token so we can send you notifications about games, reactions, gloats, friend requests and settled tabs.
Information collected automatically
- Crash and diagnostic data (through Firebase Crashlytics): device model, operating system, app version and details of the crash, so we can fix bugs.
- App events and advertising identifiers (through the Meta SDK): app installs, app opens, sign-up completion and method, and gloat pack store views, checkouts and purchases. See Ad measurement & your choices.
- Basic technical data such as IP address and device type, which our service providers process when your device connects to them.
How we use your information
- To create and run your account and let you sign in.
- To record games and calculate your stats, records, breakdowns, trophies and running tabs.
- To help you find and connect with friends, and to show your activity to them.
- To send notifications you've allowed.
- To process and verify gloat pack purchases and restore them on new devices.
- To keep the Service safe, fix bugs and improve features.
- To measure how well our advertising for Talli works.
- To respond to you, and to comply with the law.
If you're in the EEA or UK, we rely on these legal bases: performance of our contract with you (running the Service), legitimate interests (security, improving Talli, crash reporting), consent (contacts, location, notifications and ad measurement using your advertising ID), and legal obligation where it applies.
What other people can see
Talli is built to be shared, so some of your information is visible to other users:
- Anyone on Talli can find you by searching your name or username, and can see your username, profile photo and display name. You can choose to show your username instead of your full name in your profile settings.
- Your friends can see your stats, records and head-to-head results against them.
- Everyone in a game can see that game: who played, the score, the outcome, notes, reactions and any payout amounts, and it appears in their feed and history.
A game record belongs to everyone who played it. If you delete your account, games you played in stay in the other players' history, along with the name and photo shown when the game was recorded.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers that run Talli for us, under contracts that limit how they can use your data:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud (accounts, database, file storage, cloud functions, notifications, crash reporting)
- Google Places (city suggestions)
- Meta Platforms (ad measurement; see below)
- Apple and Google, when you sign in with them or buy something through their app stores. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Other Talli users, as described in What other people can see.
- Apps you choose to open. If you use "Settle up" to open Venmo, or share a game or an invite, the details you choose are passed to that app, and its own policy applies. Talli does not receive or process payments.
- Sponsor offers. Offers in the app link to the sponsor's own website. We don't give sponsors your personal information.
- Legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith it's needed to comply with the law, respond to valid legal process, or protect the rights and safety of Talli, our users or others.
- Business transfers. If Talli is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that deal, and this policy will continue to apply to it.
Ad measurement & your choices
We advertise Talli on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. To learn which ads lead people to install and use Talli, the app sends app events (listed above) to Meta. When permitted, these are linked to your device's advertising identifier. Meta may combine this with information it already has, under Meta's Privacy Policy.
- iPhone: Talli asks for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track," we don't share your advertising identifier. You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
- Everyone: you can manage how Meta uses data from other apps in your Meta account's Ad Preferences.
Under some U.S. state laws, sharing data with Meta for ad measurement may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out using the settings above or by emailing hello@talliapp.com. We also honor Global Privacy Control signals where the law requires.
Keeping & deleting your data
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Edit Profile → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm your identity first.
When you delete your account:
- Your sign-in, profile, profile photo, friend list and notifications are deleted, and you're removed from your friends' lists. This may take up to 30 days to complete across our systems and backups.
- Shared game records, feed posts and settled tabs stay in the history of the other people who played (see the note in What other people can see). If you'd like your name removed from those records, email us and we'll replace it with "Deleted user" where we can.
- We keep purchase records for as long as needed for tax, accounting and fraud-prevention purposes.
- Crash reports are kept for up to 90 days.
If you can't access the app, email hello@talliapp.com from your account's email address and we'll delete your account for you.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, access rules that limit who can read each piece of data, and server-side verification of purchases. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you as required by law.
Children
Talli is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it. Users between 13 and 18 should use Talli only with a parent's or guardian's permission. Payout and settle-up features are only for adults.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct information that's wrong (most of it you can edit in the app);
- delete your information;
- object to or limit certain uses, or withdraw consent you've given;
- opt out of "sharing" for targeted advertising (see above); and
- not be treated differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email hello@talliapp.com. We'll confirm your identity, usually by asking you to write from the email on your account, and reply within the time the law requires (typically 30 to 45 days). You can use an authorized agent, and you can appeal a decision by replying to our response. If you're in the EEA or UK, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
International users
Talli is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process your information in the U.S. and other countries. Where the law requires, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, for these transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always shows the latest version.
